Day 2: 1 John 1:7
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. (1 John 1:5)
In this passage, we see the apostle John sharing us a message from Jesus: the great value of life-giving relationships.
We are called to walk in the light, that of which is the light of Christ. As followers of Christ, we are expected to shine that light into the lives of others through relationships that literally give life to others. The Bible tells us to not just say we love each other, but actually show truth by action (1 John 3:18). So what does that mean?
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
To be “life-giving” means to brings joy and hope to those around you; these relationships are powerful and help each of us become the person that God has called us to be. These relationships require time, intentionality and priority, but they are so worth it!
The great thing about life-giving relationships is that they benefit both sides, and everyone involved feels more fulfilled. I encourage you to schedule time this week to shine your light into someone else’s life. Choose to be intentional – make your relationship with others a priority and not an afterthought.
Ask yourself today: How can God use me to demonstrate his love to those around me?
