Living Out First: Pray First

Day 13: Philippians 4:6-7

“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

When I think about all God has done for me, the very least that I can do back is talk to Him. That is what prayer really is in the simplest form.

He wants and desires for us to talk to Him. We have the divine opportunity to include a perfect, holy God in the midst of all of our cares in the world. Not only is He an excellent listener, but He also has the great power to work on our behalf. Why would not open our hearts to talk to God about everything in our life?

When can pray and talk to God about anything, and He promises to give us peace. When we are sick, we can talk to God for healing. When finances are strapped, we can talk to God to provide. When we are lonely, we can talk to God. When we are afraid, we can talk to God. When we are happy, we can sing praises to God!

It’s all about communication. Sometimes the thing we need to do most is get past our inhibitions and simply speak to our Creator. There are even moments when we can get quite – and listen to Him as He speaks back to our hearts.

Pray First. This should be our action facing any decision we make, any pressure we face, or any obstacle in our way. At first, it may seem difficult.

With consistent practice though, talking to God about everything in our life – finding Him as our source for wisdom and strength – will become as natural for us as it was for Adam and Eve to talk to God in the Garden of Eden.

Challenge yourself today: Take a moment – even just a minute – and talk to God about your day. Then sit for a moment, and listen to what He says back.
